While the olympics are underway, I decided to see if I could find any cool olympic pen giveaways. Guess what? I did! In fact I found a bunch, here is the first in this series.

So, I started searching for some cool pens that I wanted and I came upon these really cool lego star wars pens. Supposedly if you get the whole set you can interchange the pieces and build your own pen, but the fact that it’s a lego pen with star wars characters is really neat.

Here’s a cool Hulk Hogan promotional pen. Perfect for any Hulkamaniacs pen collection. This pen is pretty old school especially since the WWF, I mean WWE changed their logo awhile ago. I think it’s been like 6 years since the rebranding. But still it’s still a really cool pen.

Novelty Pen: Pizza Pen

Here’s an interesting novelty pen. I don’t think I would be able to leave this pen laying around. It would be kind of cool if it came in a tiny pizza box.

Comicon Giveaway: Halo Pen

To promote the soon to be released (Hopefully) Halo movie, at Comicon 2008, these really cool light up Halo Pens were being handed out. Light-up pens are really great for bringing attention to your promo. Plus they just look really cool!!

Bic Anniversary Pen

I saw this really cool Bic anniversary pen. Bic is certainly one of the most popular brand names in commercial pens. I thought that it was so cool that penhero.com had a Bic Silver Anniversary Pen. According to PenHero, Bic pens were the first pen that wasn’t a fountain pen. That’s kind of cool since the most popular pens to collect are Fountain Pens.

The Pen That Should Be In Every Utility Belt

If any of you are into video games at all, the you should know about the E3 conference that’s currently going on. At things like trade shows and conference you are bound to find some really cool pen schwag, but this one takes the proverbial cake.

then I saw this photo of what the pen can actually do:

The Emergence of the “Floaty” Pen

I have seen “floaty” pens in tons of tourist attraction, but never have I ever seen them used as a promotional product.

I like this one from Prudential

They wanted to give their customers a “Piece of the Rock,” with an actual rock floating in the pen. What a nifty idea! Perfect for any pen collection.

Of course this “floaty” pen,

from the 1964 World’s Fair is a really vintage pen that any pen collector (especially myself) would love to get his/her hands on.

Getting creative with your promotional pens

Have you ever thought about getting creative with your promo pen collection? Perhaps you’ve had an idea to turn a pen itself into something artistic, or perhaps even something more useful than a simple pen? That’s what participants in the Designboom competition had in mind when they re-invented the Bic ballpoint pen.

This participant decided to add to the functionality of the classic Bic pen cap by adding fork, knife, and spoon extensions.

This next entrant decided to take a green approach and turn their Bic pen into a flower vase!

And this final entrant got a bit militaristic and decided that Bic pens should also be used as bow-and-arrows.

So you see, collecting free pens goes beyond the joy of building up your stash. You can actually use these pens for do-it-yourself projects like the ones pictured above. Who knows, maybe your innovative design will revolutionize the way we see pens!
